The bullfight 4: VerĂ³nicas
VerĂ³nicas: Slow Cape Movements are precise movements of the cape held with both hands, passing over the bull’s head. The name is derived from St Veronica, who is said to have wiped the forehead of Jesus Christ with her widow’s veil, moved by pity as he carried his cross on the way to Golgotha. The matador’s slow and deliberate movement wipes across the bull’s horns and head. The artist captures the bull’s footsteps with black, staccato tread marks, contrasted with the languor of the matador’s capote (cape) moving in slow motion.
